Bishop McCort Catholic High School is pleased to announce the creation of the Bright Futures Fund, a merit-based financial assistance program designed to reward student achievement and expand access to a high-quality, faith-based education.

The Bright Futures Fund was established through a recent restricted $1 million gift and has been structured to remain open for outside charitable giving by others who wish to support its mission.

In conjunction with Catholic Schools Week 2026, Bishop McCort Catholic High School will open the application process for the Bright Futures Fund.

The founding $1 million contribution was made by an anonymous Bishop McCort alumnus who shares the school’s commitment to academic excellence and opportunity.

Financial assistance through the fund is available to new and existing students in grades seven through 12.

“The Bright Futures Fund is a tremendous opportunity for students throughout the Johnstown area to reach their full potential through an excellent faith-based education,” said Tom Smith, Principal and Chief Administrative Officer Tom Smith. “We are grateful not only for this transformative gift, but also for the opportunity to grow the fund through additional charitable support.”

According to a news release from Bishop McCort, a high-quality education is the foundation for lifelong success; family income should never stand in the way of a student’s opportunity to learn, grow, and fulfill their potential. Every capable and motivated student deserves access to education that empowers a brighter future.

The mission of the Bright Futures Fund, according to the release, is to expand access to a Bishop McCort Catholic High School education by offering merit-based financial aid to high-performing and high-potential students—ensuring that opportunity is defined by ability and effort, not family income.

Its purpose is to support deserving students, increase enrollment, reward achievement, and drive high academic standards.
