Cathedral to Celebrate Dedication Anniversary

1560

The Labor Day holiday will be extra special for the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona this year.

Bishop Mark will celebrate a Mass commemorating the 89th anniversary of the Cathedral’s dedication on Labor Day, September 7th at 9:00 a.m. at the Cathedral. Parishioners and faithful from throughout the diocese are invited.

The original dedication happened on September 7, 1931, by Dennis Cardinal Daugherty, the Archbishop of Philadelphia. He and other dignitaries arrived by train the night before and were escorted to the episcopal residence by Bishop John McCort, the second Bishop of Altoona-Johnstown.

All are welcome to the anniversary Mass on Labor Day.
