Saint Francis University invites the greater community to attend “Into the Night,” a Suicide Prevention Awareness Walk and Candlelight Vigil on Wednesday Sept. 6.

The evening focuses on building awareness of suicide and remembering loved ones who died by suicide and is organized by the University’s Center for Well-Being, Campus Ministry and Residence Life as part of National Suicide Prevention Week.

Beginning at 5 p.m. there will be a Meet and Greet with attendees followed at 6 p.m. by the Suicide Prevention Awareness Walk on the Campus Mall. Suicide prevention awareness information will also be available. At 7 p.m. a memorial vigil will be held in the Immaculate Conception Chapel.

The vigil is a time of remembrance of loved ones who died by suicide, during which names of loved ones will be read aloud as participants remember them and provide comfort to their survivors.

Community members may submit the names of those they would like to be remembered by calling 814-472-3211 or emailing counseling@francis.edu.

Everyone is encouraged to wear purple on September 6 in support of suicide prevention awareness.
