From Saint Benedict Parish
The 29th year of Vacation Bible School at St. Benedict in Johnstown was held on June 20-24, 2022 and was entitled “Lighthouse Adventure-Jesus Lights the Way.”
It was a most successful week with 86 students registering, 18 junior high and high school students, and many adult helpers. The series, written by one of our teachers, Lauren Miller, focused on the seven sacraments and the Mass. Students moved as teams to five activities, including storytelling, crafts, music, gym, and snack. The little ones loved working with their older student helpers.
When the student volunteers came in each morning before their classroom duties began, they tied 24 fleece blankets to be donated to a local charity. Over $200 was collected for the Haitian missions to be donated through Sister Cindy. Prayer dolls were given to each student to remind them to pray for the mission children.
Throughout the week, everyone involved was watched over by Our Lord whose presence was physically demonstrated in the light atop our full sized lighthouse in the Gym.
A beautiful liturgy was celebrated on Friday of Bible School week in which all students played an active role. Parents and other family and friends attended and joined in a reception with food and fellowship in the School Hall afterward.
Many thanks to all those who worked to make our Vacation Bible School a true success last week.
