There’s an old saying that there is no such thing as a free lunch, but at Saint Peter Parish in Somerset, there is an opportunity to snag some free goodies, all in memory of a woman who meant so much to the faith community there.
The Women’s Group at Saint Peter is sponsoring a Christmas in July event during which gently used clothing and household items will be available at no cost.
“Back in the fall of 2025 when several of our service groups at Saint Peter were conducting various collections, our parish secretary, Linda Gattian (photo left), suggested we take up these collections throughout different times during the year rather than all during the short time of October through December,” said Denise Demchak, one of the organizers of the event. “After her sudden passing away in January, that conversation came back to me, and after consulting with other members of our Women’s Group and our Pastor, Father Angelo Patti, we decided to conduct this Outreach Project and name it in memory of Linda.”
The Christmas in July event will take place on July 10 and 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Saint Peter church hall.
Items available include men’s and women’s clothing and shoes, handbags, household items, linens, small appliances, and seasonal decor,
“Our hope is to reach out to community members in the area who are in need of clothing and household items and to make these items available free of charge,” Demchak added.
