Prince Gallitzin Cross Awards to Return

28

A prestigious and beloved tradition in the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown is returning.

After a several year hiatus, nominations are being sought for the Prince Gallitzin Cross Award, which recognizes clergy, religious, and laity who exhibit the “evangelizing spirit” of the Prince-Priest and Servant of God Demetrius Gallitzin.

The award was presented annually in the diocese from 1990 until 2019 and was halted in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bishop Mark is inviting clergy, religious, and lay parishioners to submit nominations for the award by Friday, July 31, 2026.

Award criteria and nomination forms have been sent to all pastors.

The awards will be presented on October 9, 2026, during a dinner at Bishop Carroll Catholic High School in Ebensburg, generously sponsored by the Independent Catholic Foundation.

The honorees will also be featured in the fall edition of Proclaim! Magazine.
