From Bishop Carroll Catholic High School
Bishop Carroll Catholic High School senior Madison Ostinowsky was recently selected to participate in the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Young Ambassador Program, supported by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Madison was selected from more than 80 applicants from across the state of Pennsylvania.
The Young Ambassadors of Pennsylvania (YAP) Program seeks to build community stewards and civic leaders by inspiring, engaging, and empowering young Pennsylvanians to not only keep their communities clean and beautiful but also to become ambassadors in their community for our shared vision of a clean and beautiful Pennsylvania. Over nine months, the program will engage students in the 10th through 12th grades from diverse socio-economic, racial and ethnic backgrounds. Every ambassador will receive Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful merchandise and cleanup supplies as part of the program.
As a member of the program, Madison will be responsible for attending virtual education and training workshops focused on the impact of litter on roadways, litter prevention, waste management and recycling, civic engagement and related public policy, volunteer management, and social media marketing. Madison will also attend two networking opportunities that will bring together program participants, state officials, staff, and the peer group from Texas. She will conduct one community cleanup through Pick UP Pennsylvania, conduct one community education event at Bishop Carroll, and promote the program on social media.
Madison commented, “I wanted to help out my community by educating others about these important topics and doing something about them. I am very happy to have been selected and look forward to the program.” Madison’s advisor at Bishop Carroll, Mr. Jonathan Nagy, commented, “I am so proud of Madison for her enthusiasm for this program. I can’t think of a better candidate the Young Ambassadors, and I look forward to all of the good that she will accomplish.”
