A beautiful and longstanding Advent tradition is happening once again this year at a Somerset County Parish.
Our Lady Queen of Angels Parish in Central City will offer a Rorate Mass on Saturday, December 14, at 6:30 a.m. at the Saint John worship site, 164 Wheeler Street.
According to the Pastor, Father Aron Maghsoudi, a Rorate Mass, common in Eastern and Central Europe, is celebrated only by candlelight just before dawn.
“Offered in honor of the Blessed Mother, the interplay of light and darkness speak to the meaning of Advent and the coming of Christ as the light of the world,” Father Maghsoudi noted.Â
The Mass will be in English and Latin (Novus Ordo) and will feature Gregorian chant under the direction of Professor Nicholas Will.
“Some people who have attended past years have remarked it as the most sublime moment of their year,” Father Maghsoudi added. “All are welcome to participate in this annual Mass. It is a powerful way to understand more fully the season of Advent.”
