In January, John (Jack) Fresh purchased a $20 scratch-off lottery ticket on a whim. Much to his surprise, he was a winner of $1,000,000.

A constant supporter of his alma mater, Jack (class of 1973) and his wife Jan, decided to pay forward their winnings by making a large contribution to Bishop Carroll Catholic High School. Jack saw the BC Winter Wish List posted on the school’s Facebook page. The Wish List consisted of items that fall outside of the general budget, but directly impact the students. Jack decided to not only sponsor one item; he sponsored the entire list!

Through his $18,000 donation, the school is able to purchase several items, including new chairs for the cafeteria, whiteboard conversions for several classrooms, upgrades to the weight room, communication televisions for around the school, and several other upgrades and enhancements. Each of these items will be acquired this school year so that the students feel the impact immediately.

Commenting on why he chose to contribute to Bishop Carroll, Jack said, “I wanted to give back, and I graduated from BC and it has always meant so much to me. I am happy to be able to help!”

Bishop Carroll Business Manager Mrs. Lynn Weber is very appreciative of Jack’s donation. “We always speak of Bishop Carroll as a family, and a family reaches out to help each other. Jack has always had a love for his alma mater, and by choosing to give back in such a monumental way, is a shining example to others. On behalf of the entire school community, I want to thank Jack and Jan for their gift!”

Both Jack and Lynn hope that his donation will inspire other people to be as generous. The entire Bishop Carroll Catholic High School community thanks Jack for his contribution and unwavering support of the school and students!
