An individual who attended three recent Masses at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona has tested positive for COVID-19.

The person was present at the 10:00 a.m. Mass on November 1 and the 6:45 a.m. Masses on November 2 and 3.

The Cathedral is undergoing additional sanitization.

The Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown reminds all clergy and faithful of Bishop Mark Bartchak’s directive to wear masks and practice physical distancing at all Masses and other church activities. The obligation to attend Sunday and Holy Days Masses remains waived by the Bishop until further notice.

The Sunday Mass from Saint John Gualbert Cathedral in Johnstown is broadcast live every Sunday at 11:00 a.m. on WATM ABC 23 and rebroadcast every Sunday at 9:00 p.m. on Atlantic Broadband channel 9. Various parishes also live-stream or post Masses on their website or social media.

The diocese offers prayers for the individual who tested positive and for everyone affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
