The Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown is mourning the passing of a Cambria County pastor.
Father Robert Hall, Pastor of Transfiguration Parish in Conemaugh, passed on April 4, 2024, following a brief illness.
He was born in Johnstown on October 16, 1951, the son of the late James and Mary Jo (Hamilton) Hall.
He graduated from Saint Benedict School in Johnstown, Richland High School in Johnstown, and Saint Mary’s College in St. Mary, Kentucky. He attended Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
Father Hall was ordained to the diocesan priesthood on May 5, 1979, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona.
Among his early assignments were Saint John Gualbert Cathedral in Johnstown, Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish in Bedford, Saint Clement Parish in Johnstown, and Saint Stephen Parish in Johnstown, all as Associate Pastor. After more than two years as Chaplain at Mercy Hospital in Altoona, he was assigned as Parochial Vicar at Saint Benedict Parish in Johnstown.
He also served as Chaplain at the State Correctional Institution in Huntingdon.
Father Hall served at Saint Catherine of Siena Parish in Mount Union from 1991-1995, first as Administrator, then as Pastor.
He was appointed Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Altoona in 1995, a post he held until 2000.
He was then named Pastor of Assumption and Sacred Heart Parishes in Conemaugh, which merged into the Church of the Transfiguration Parish in 2008, where he served as Pastor until his passing.
Bishop Mark extends his deepest sympathy to the Hall family and to the faith community of Transfiguration Parish.Â
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 10, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Johnstown, and on Thursday, April 11, from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Transfiguration in Conemaugh.
Bishop Mark will celebrate the funeral Mass on April 11 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Transfiguration.
