Bishop Honors Jubilarians at Dinner

Bishop Mark hosted his annual social and dinner honoring men and women religious in our diocese who are celebrating jubilee anniversaries this year.

Joining the Bishop on June 22 at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona were Sister Evangelista Strohmier, RSM, marking the 75th anniversary of religious profession; the Very Reverend Eugene Kubina, TOR, marking the 70th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood; and the Very Reverend Frank Scornaienchi, TOR, Pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Altoona, Reverend Carl Vacek, TOR, Parochial Vicar of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Altoona, and Brother Gabriel Mary Amato, TOR, all marking the 50th anniversary of religious profession.

Joining the Bishop in hosting the dinner were the Very Reverend Anthony Francis Spilka, OFM Conv., Bishop’s Vicar for Religious and Pastor of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish in Johnstown; and Monsignor Stanley Carson, Administrator of the Cathedral.

Among the jubilarians unable to attend the dinner were Sister Jacinta Mary Hirner, O. Carm., marking the 70the anniversary of religious profession; Sister Marilyn Welch, CCW, and Sister Mary Robert Anthony Didas, O. Carm., both marking the 60th anniversary of religious profession; Reverend Francis Moyher, TOR, marking the 60th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood; Reverend Bernard Karmanocky, OFM, Pastor of Saint Anne and Saint Therese of the Child Jesus Parishes in Johnstown, and Sister Karen Gruseck, CCW, both marking the 50th anniversary of religious profession; Reverend Terrence Smith, TOR, marking the 50th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood; and Reverend Christopher Lemme, TOR, Pastor of Holy Family Parish in Colver, marking the 25th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood.
