The Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown is mourning the passing of a senior priest.
Reverend John F. Brezovec passed on May 19, 2025.
Father Brezovec was born on July 13, 1941, in Conemaugh.
He attended the Pontifical College Josephinum in Ohio and the Pontifical Urban University in Rome.
He was ordained to the priesthood on December 16, 1966, at Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
From 1967 until 1993, Father Brezovec was a professor at the Pontifical College Josephinum.
In 1993, he was appointed Parochial Vicar at Saint John Gualbert Cathedral in Johnstown and was later assigned to Hospital Chaplaincy in the Johnstown area, while continuing to reside and assist at Saint John Gualbert.
He was appointed to Senior Priest status in 2016.
A public visitation for Father Brezovec will be held on May 23, 2025, at Saint John Gualbert Cathedral beginning at 1:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will follow at 2:00 p.m. on May 23 at Saint John Gualbert Cathedral.
