Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown has announced the recipients of its 2019 Monsignor William M. Griffin Award and Matthew 25 Youth Humanitarian Award.
The Griffin Award recognizes adults with a significant, long-term commitment (professional or volunteer) to serving the poor, marginalized and most vulnerable within our diocesan community. The 2019 winners are:

The Matthew 25 Award is given to elementary and high school students for demonstrating exceptional service to their communities, especially service to the poor and needy. This service must be “above and beyond” required school community service hours and service as a parish altar server. The 2019 winners are:
- Ben Wechtenhiser – Forest Hills Senior High School; 12th Grade
- Sarah Farabaugh – Bishop Carroll Catholic High School; 12th Grade
- Seth Richardson – Forest Hills Senior High School; 11th Grade
- Emma York – Windber Area High School; 12th Grade
- Brendan Veney – Greater Johnstown High School; 12th Grade
All award recipients will be honored at the Catholic Charities annual Recognition Dinner on June 6 at the Casino at Lakemont Park in Altoona.
