From Bishop McCort Catholic High School

Bishop McCort Catholic High School will be expanding its campus to include the former AmeriServ building on the corner of Franklin and Osborne Streets.

This acquisition was made possible through a $897,000 Broadband Grant from the PA Department of Community & Economic Development.

On November 21, PA State Representative Frank Burns presented Bishop McCort Principal/CAO with a check for the project.

The new facility will operate with a dual purpose, both education and community focused.

Bishop McCort will utilize the building to further expand the H.E.A.L. (Health, Education and Learning) program. The H.E.A.L. program started this academic year through a partnership with Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. It provides Bishop McCort High School students who are interested in a career in healthcare to jumpstart their post-secondary education.

In addition to the H.E.A.L. program, Bishop McCort will use the facility to offer online learning opportunities for area students who seek an option from the traditional classroom setting.

As a service to the community, Bishop McCort will open the facility to the public to utilize as an internet café. Computers and internet access will be available to area residents and students who may not have this technology readily available.

Tom Smith, Bishop McCort Principal/CAO says, “We are so excited to expand the footprint of the Bishop McCort campus and to bring additional technology and learning services to our students and the Johnstown community. We are grateful for the efforts of Representative Frank Burns in helping to secure this grant and Senator Wayne Langerholc for introducing us to this opportunity.”
