From Bishop Carroll Catholic High School
On Saturday, April 27, Bishop Carroll Catholic High School held its fifteenth annual Carrollian Gala. At the fundraising event, several individuals were presented with honors for their contributions to the school community and the world at large.
The Bishop Carroll Cornerstone Award is given to those who have made a lasting impact on the school community. Mr. T. Edward Graffte, a 20-year Bishop Carroll faculty member and a 53-year veteran of education, was honored for his commitment to the students of the school through his classes, activities, and overall guidance. Mr. Patrick Sheridan, Class of 1974, was honored for his nearly 40 years as the voice of Bishop Carroll athletics, on the microphone for football, basketball, volleyball, and soccer.
In addition to the Cornerstone Awards, three individuals were chosen as Distinguished Alumni Award winners. The recipients all used the foundations they received at Bishop Carroll to make the world a better place. The winners included:
1963 graduate Mrs. Charlene (Chirdon) Carney, who upon graduation from Bishop Carroll, founded Charlene’s School of Dance, which is still operating today, 61 years later.
1971 graduate Monsignor Stanley Carson, a priest of the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown and a former principal of Bishop Carroll Catholic High School.
1981 graduate Louann (Rodgers) Hoffman, owner/operator of Lang Real Estate and Tax Service in Cresson.
The entire Bishop Carroll community is grateful for the contributions that these individuals have made to the school and the world at large.
The evening was also an opportunity to announce some major upcoming projects at Bishop Carroll, as well as educate those in attendance as to the state of affairs at the school, and provide information about the EITC and Named Scholarship programs and the Endowment Campaign. Through the efforts of this event and the coordinating online auction, thousands of dollars were raised for the school.
Bishop Carroll Catholic High School would like to thank all of our generous sponsors who made the evening possible!
