Famed Tamburitzans to Perform for Parish Fundraiser

From All Saints Parish

On Saturday October 12, All Saints Parish in Boswell will be hosting a performance by the famed Tamburitzan folk ensemble from Pittsburgh at North Star High School in Boswell.

The Tamburitzans, who are comprised of elite student performers, have performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls, both nationally and internationally, for over 80 years.

All the performers receive college scholarships and are college students in the Pittsburgh area (the Tamburitzans were long associated with Duquesne University).

The Tamburitzans help to preserve venerable ethnic cultures from around the world through lively dances, authentic instruments (over 100 different per show), vibrant costumes, and a variety of languages.

Each year the Tamburitzans put on a new show. This year’s show will feature music, dance, and folk costumes from Polish, Slovak, Croatian, Roma, Serbian, Mexican, Bulgarian, and Armenian cultures.

The presence of the Tamburitzans in Boswell is a rare and exceptional event. It is their only show in our region this year.

Proceeds from the event will go to help fund a pilgrimage to Rome for students from the Boswell parish. All high school students who are enrolled in the parish religious education program at Boswell, along with one parent, are invited to attend the trip to Rome at no cost.

Following the show there will be a festive reception in the parish hall featuring food and drink from all over the world. In addition to food and a cash bar, there will be games of chance and live music by the Tamburitzans.

The event begins at 2:00 p.m.

The cost is $25 for seniors, $30 general admission, $10 for students. Reception is $20 and is all you can eat.

For tickets, please phone the parish office, 814-629-5551 or email the parish secretary, Emily Marsh, at emarsh@dioceseaj.org.
