Saint Andrew Parish in Johnstown appears to have realized its goal of having its church bells ringing again by Easter.
This past fall, the faith community launched a fundraising campaign to restore the beautiful bells on the complex, which haven’t sounded in decades. Last month, the parish reached its $50,000 fundraising goal thanks to a contribution from Nicholas Zakucia, the chief of the Geistown Borough Police Department, in memory of his wife, Cathy. The chief is an alum of the former Saint Andrew School.
Pledges to the campaign now exceed the $50,000 goal. Money not used for the restoration will go towards annual maintenance of the bells and the bell tower so the bells can keep ringing for years to come.Â
