They say timing is everything, and there could not be a better time to welcome another Catholic radio station in the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown.
WMMH 91.9 FM in Houtzdale began broadcasting on March 19 — the feast of Saint Joseph. It is the sixth Catholic station under the umbrella of JMJ Radio (Jesus, Mary, and Joseph), based in Scranton and owned by Ed and Carol Ann Niewinski.
With public Masses suspended and church buildings closed, more and more Catholics are yearning for spiritually. Thankfully, television, radio, and social media are providing liturgies, reflections, and other prayer opportunities.
 WMMH is an affiliate of EWTN and available 24 hours a day.
“Our new station broadcasts the best in Catholic radio programming, almost entirely from the Eternal Word Television Network in Birmingham, Alabama,” Ed Niewinski said. “We intend to add local programming and improve the station’s signal to reach a wider area.”
EWTN programming includes the daily Mass, the Rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, and other prayers, programs about scripture, evangelization, theology, Catholic history, Catholic apologetics, and several listener call-in shows.
“We have never needed a Catholic radio station more than during this most critical and tumultuous time,” noted Mary Ann Lindner, a member of the board of the radio station. “As we deeply miss our church and yearn for our faith, JMJ Radio will help to fill that void.”
