Submitted by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Rita #523

At the monthly meeting on June 10, 2020, Catholic Daughters, Court St. Rita #523 at Saint Matthew Parish, Tyrone, named Susan Ronan their Woman of the Year for 2019-2020.

The Court year runs from June 2019 into June 2020. Since 2020 has been a most unusual year, we thought it fitting to have a most unusual Woman of the Year.

Sue has been unflappable through four years of service as Financial Secretary. An avid quilter, Sue has been at the foundation of Catholic Daughters. With ease and homespun charm, Sue has been the binding thread and backing for many a successful project or event.

Piece by piece our Woman of the Year has fashioned a beautiful example of service. She is the “shower-upper,” the “take-up-the-slacker,” the dependable, the trustworthy.

Just as with her quilting skills, Sue sees the big, beautiful outcome while meticulously and skillfully attending to details. Long term planning to last minute notice, Sue is willing and able to serve and has done yeoman’s work for four years as an officer.

Sue planned the 2019 State Convention trip for seven members and then sold Raffle tickets at the State Convention.  Sue has made and donated beautiful handmade work for Basket Raffle fundraiser and took the initiative and made a special Angel Banner for Sister Karen Duddy, CCW.

Sue has served on the Saint Matthew Funeral Luncheon committee and worked at the Central Pennsylvania Rodeo to raise money for Saint Matthew School. Sue organized and set up several Altoona-Johnstown CDA Diocesan Meetings.  Sue served on the Christmas Party Committee, was chairperson for the Super Bowl Bake Sale, and is on hand for other fundraisers

In addition to CDA duties, Sue is a liaison and team member with the Knights of Columbus for Fish dinners, rodeo, and other activities.  Sue also started working in the Saint Matthew Parish Office this past winter.

Catholic Daughters, and the entire Saint Matthew Parish family, know that Sue Ronan is a reliable, dedicated and hard-worker for whenever and wherever there is a need. This dedication is acknowledged in the award of CDA Woman of the Year for 2019-2020.
