From Saint Matthew School
Three young artists from Tyrone’s Saint Matthew School were recently selected to have their original artwork featured in an upcoming publication.
Young Artists, a national publishing company out of Massachusetts, creates fun and engaging themed contests that are sent to educators across the US where they inspire children to draw or paint with the opportunity to have their artwork published. The theme for the recent contest, Monster Madness, was geared to students ages 4 through 12. Each artist was challenged to create an original monster, a name, and a written description about their creation.
The three students from Saint Matthew School who were selected to have their original illustrations published in an upcoming book included fourth grader Lucy Hawthorne whose design was titled Vampire Tabby Cat. Fifth graders Nadi Jeffries, whose creation was called The Rainbow Robot, and Elyana Hewitt, who illustrated Bigfoot, will also be included.
“Any opportunity to celebrate creativity is worth pursuing,” said classroom teacher Miss Lily Smith. “This program offered the freedom to dream and create which is often when magical things happen.”
School Principal Pauline Wiley added, “We are so pleased that the works from three of our students were selected to be recognized. Providing the opportunity to develop creativity and critical thinking works hand-in-hand with our strong academic curriculum and these three young ladies showed that such efforts are worthwhile.”
The book featuring the selected illustrations will be published in early June.
