Diocese Mourns Passing of Father Raymond Crosser

The Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown is mourning the passing of a senior priest.

Reverend Raymond G. Crosser passed on July 22.

He was born on April 7, 1930, in Bellwood, the son of the late Raymond C. and Beatrice (Flynn) Crosser.

He graduated from Altoona Catholic High School, Saint Vincent College in Latrobe and Saint Vincent Seminary.

Father Crosser was ordained a priest on May 26, 1956, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona.

After ordination, he was appointed Assistant Pastor at Saint Patrick Parish in Newry/Saint Anne, Claysburg. He later served as Assistant Pastor at Immaculate Conception Parish in Lock Haven, Saint Benedict Parish in Johnstown, and Our Mother of Sorrows Parish in Johnstown.

He was Pastor of Saint Agnes Parish in Lloydell, Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish in Bedford, Saint Michael Parish in Hollidaysburg, Saint Edward Parish in Barnesboro, Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Altoona, and Saint Thomas More Parish in Roaring Spring.

Father Crosser retired from active ministry in 1996. In his retirement, he proudly served as a Chaplain for Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School athletics.

A viewing will be held on July 27 from 2:00-7:00 p.m. at Saint Joseph Parish in Bellwood and on July 28 from 9:00-10:45 a.m. at Saint Joseph. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on July 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph.
