The Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown is mourning the passing of a deacon.
Deacon Samuel M. Cammarata passed suddenly on October 14.
He was 78 years old.
Born on June 11, 1947, the son of the late Frank and Malina (Brown) Cammarata, he served in the United States Army and became a first lieutenant. He taught at Windber High School and retired from the Hiram G. Andrews Center after 30 years of teaching.
He was ordained a deacon of the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown and served at parishes including Saint Columba in Johnstown, Holy Spirit in Lock Haven, Saint Andrew in Johnstown, Resurrection in Johnstown, and Saint Clare of Assisi in Johnstown, his home parish.
He is survived by his wife, Joan, three children, and one grandson.
Friends will be received on October 17 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Frank Duca Funeral Home in Johnstown. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on October 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Clare of Assisi Parish in Johnstown.
