Two years ago, Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School and Holy Trinity Catholic School became one system, providing a seamless pre-k through 12 education.
Until this year, however, the school was still operating as two separate brands.
With a new name comes a new look.
The school worked with a designer and a committee to come up with a fresh seal that was unveiled recently and will represent Bishop Guilfoyle Academy at all of its campus locations.
It’s only the fifth time in BG’s more than 100-year history that the seal has been updated.
In the center is a green cross, symbolizing the school’s Catholic roots and tradition and mission of inclusivity – welcoming students and families regardless of faith tradition.
Representing Goodness (Bonitas) is the sun with 15 rays each symbolizing a grade in the school and reminding everyone to shine brightly.
The book stands for Knowledge (Scientia) and education and is a reminder to seek the truth.
The anvil and hammer represent Discipline (Disciplina) and is a nod to the forefathers who built Altoona through their labors in the railroad and other heavy industry.
The new shield will be used for academic and formal purposes.
There are also other logos that will be used for informal purposes and be featured on athletic uniforms and spirit ware.Â
Bishop Guilfoyle Academy includes four campus locations.
The junior high/high school campus on Pleasant Valley Boulevard in Altoona houses grades six through 12. Pre-k through fifth grade campuses are located in the Eldorado section of Altoona at Saint Rose of Lima Parish and in the Fairview section of Altoona at Saint Therese of the Child Jesus Parish. A Hollidaysburg campus at Saint Michael Parish is the newest edition this year.
