From Bishop Carroll Catholic High School
In February, Bishop Carroll Catholic High School lost one of its biggest supporters when Ray Boley passed away. Ray had been a fixture at BC sporting events, especially football and basketball, for the better part of forty years. An honorary graduate and lifetime team manager, Ray’s presence is sorely missed, especially during the Boys Basketball Team’s Final Four run in the state playoffs.
The Board of Trustees and Administration wanted to find a way to honor Ray to appreciate his spirit and dedication to the school. His parents, Don and Edie, and siblings Michael, Dave, Kristine, and Dan, have given their blessing to allow the school to renovate and rename the gym lobby in his honor, becoming the Ray Boley Atrium. The plan will also include updating and expanding the student fitness center.
Bishop Carroll principal Lorie Ratchford spoke about the project at the school’s recent Carrollian Gala. She said, “This initiative is so personal to many of our alumni, families, and students, because Ray was the epitome of love – love for his family, love of his faith, and love for Bishop Carroll. Although our student’s will never again hear Ray chant ‘Let’s Go Huskies,’ they will be able to see it on the wall of the fitness center with his name and honorary year of graduation underneath.”
Ray was supportive of every Bishop Carroll athlete, and this is a fitting tribute to him and his dedication. The gym atrium will also bear his name and his picture. Plans include new flooring, windows, paint, furniture, fixtures, and bathroom renovations.
