Summer Outdoor Masses Returning in Loretto

780

A summer tradition is returning in Loretto.

Sunday night outdoor Masses at the Our Lady of the Alleghenies Shrine will resume on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend — May 29 — and conclude on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend — September 4. The outdoor Masses are celebrated every Sunday night throughout the summer at 7:00 p.m.

Those who come are asked to bring their own lawn chair. In the event of inclement weather, the Mass will be celebrated inside the Basilica of Saint Michael the Archangel, next to the Shrine.

The Chapel House of the Prince-Priest and Servant of God Demetrius Gallitzin, also located next to the Shrine, is not open for personal tours. However, the historic structure will be open for visiting hours this summer from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on the following Sundays:

June 5
June 19
July 17
July 31
August 14
August 28

Visitors are invited to tour the house on any or all of those days and stay for the outdoor Mass that evening.
