Cathedrals, Basilica to Host Seasonal Concerts


The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament Choir, guest singers, and members of the Altoona Symphony will present What Sweeter Music, a concert of Advent and Christmas music in the “Lessons and Carols” format, composed and arranged by John Leavitt, on Sunday, December 15, at 3:00 p.m. in the Cathedral Nave. The audience will be invited to participate in singing familiar carols. Dr. Cathy Herrera, flute professor and friends from Juniata College will add to the festivities. Free-will offering. All are welcome!

Saint John Gualbert Cathedral in Johnstown will host an Advent of Christmas Concert on Saturday, December 21 at 7:00 p.m. This concert will feature the Greater Johnstown Diocesan Youth Chorale as well the Greater Johnstown Diocesan Festival Choir. The choirs will be accompanied by a myriad of local instrumentalists. Admission is free and open to the public. Come and enjoy the music celebrating Nativity of Our Lord at Christmas!

The Basilica of Saint Michael the Archangel in Loretto presents: Christmas Around the World. Please join us on Friday, December 27 at 7:00 p.m. The concert will feature the Saint Michael Children’s Choir and the Basilica Choir singing favorite Christmas Carols from around the world! Enjoy the music and the beauty of our basilica during the Christmas Season! A free will offering will be taken for the Basilica music program and organ repair fund.
